The widow of the recently slain Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli Bin Hir alias Marwan have been arrested during a raid in Tubod, Lanao Del Norte, authorities said on February 25, 2018.
The suspect was identified as Juromee Dongon. She is accused of supporting extremist groups and possessing firearms and explosives.
Dongon was married to a senior leader of the notorious Abu Sayyaf kidnap-for-ransom group, Khadaffy Janjalani. After his death in 2006, she married Marwan, who was killed in a raid in Mamasapano, Maguindanao in January 2015, which also left 44 elite policemen and several Moro rebels dead.
Firearms, ammunition, and bomb-making components were found in the houses of Dongon and her relatives according to lawmen.
“She (Dongon) assists, associates, networks and supports terrorist groups,” said regional police spokesman Superintendent Lemuel Gonda.
“Juromee is linked with Abu Sayyaf during the time of Janjalani and then later Jemaah Islamiyah (JI),” he added, referring to a Southeast Asian militant group.
Arrested with the widow were her 70-year-old father, 2 sisters and brother-in-law who is a policeman. The Dongons face charges of illegal possession of firearms and explosives.
Security analysts have said widows of militant leaders played important roles in extremist groups as they enhanced the status of their second husbands.
