Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Chief Aaron N. Aquino said that he is happy with President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to extend the term of Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
“We’re happy and, of course, we respect the decision of the President. Kung ano gusto ng Presidente, we are for him,” he said.
The PNP chief earlier said that he was ready to step down after his supposed retirement from the service last January, but Duterte extended his stint as PNP chief for another three months. According to Dela Rosa, his term could be extended up to a year.
The 2,000-strong PDEA was tasked by the President to take the lead in the anti-drug campaign last year after the roughly 175,000-strong PNP faced allegations of abuse in the drug war.
The PDEA chief also said that Dela Rosa has remained one of the President’s hardworking and trusted men. He also reiterated the anti-drug agency’s support for the police.
“Nakikita niya (Duterte) siguro sa pag-extend ni Chief PNP, mas makakaganda [na] we are supporting. The PDEA will always support the PNP,” Aquino said.
