MILF commander nabbed for illegal possession of firearms

A guerrilla commander was detained on April 6 for illegal possession of a firearm he allegedly uses to scare his neighbors in a seaside village in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.

Commander of the Task Force Ittihad of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Tato Ibrahim is now under the detention facility in Cotabato City of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group of ARMM.

According to Superintendent James Allan Logan of CIDG-ARMM, an ethnic Maguindanaon, Ibrahim turned himself in without resistance when a combined police and army team arrived to search for firearms and explosives in his house in Barangay Tapian.

The Tapian residents had been complaining about alleged abuse made by Ibrahim who was reported to fire a gun overhead each time he was in altercations with neighbors.

He also reportedly slapped in public a barangay official who tried to intervene and pacify him while harassing an unarmed villager, according to reports.

The .45 caliber pistol seized from Ibrahim will be used as an evidence in prosecuting him for violation of Republic Act 10591, which outlawed keeping of unlicensed firearms.
