P1.5M worth of ecstasy declared as ‘photo album’ seized

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) seized on April 5 a package containing 1,000 pieces of suspected ecstasy tablets at the Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) in Pasay City.

Originally declared as a photo album from the Netherlands, the package underwent an x-ray screening only to be identified as illegal ecstasy worth almost PhP 1.5 million.

Last Saturday, April 21, the consignee, a 20-year-old woman from Quezon City, picked up the said package. To confirm the authorities’ suspicion, they opened the shipment before the consignee and revealed its contents.

The suspect now faces charges of a non-bailable case of importation of illegal drugs with lifetime imprisonment. She is now under the custody of the NAIA Drugs Interdiction Office Task Group.

Authorities from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) is also cooperation with their counterpart in the Netherlands to arrest the sender of the package.
