Two suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed and another one was apprehended in an encounter with government security forces in Sta. Cruz town, Davao del Sur last April 21.
According to Maj. Ezra Balagtey, Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman, one of the slain rebels, Julito Pueblas alias Dagohoy, was the head of the Sentro de Grabidad of the NPA-Guerilla Front 51. Meanwhile, the alleged NPA amazon arrested by the military in Barangay Astorga was identified as Jesse Lumana.
The other rebel killed was not immediately identified.
Balagtey also said that one trooper, Col. Kenneth James Balicot of the 2nd Scout Ranger Battalion, was wounded in the fight.
Recovered from the clash site were an M16 rifle, three improvised explosive devices, two rifle grenades, ammunition, two-way radios, seven backpacks, revolutionary flags, medical supplies and personal belongings.
The military said Pueblas was also responsible for the killing of a certain Raul Alang in Sta. Cruz town in February this year.
