The Bureau of Customs (BOC) seized PhP 10 million worth of illegal drugs concealed in a doll and a Lego toy delivered to the FedEx warehouse of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
According to Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña, the two shipments of illegal drugs contained 2.06 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride or “shabu,” and 127.60 grams of kush weed. He also added that the two shipments were sent separately on different dates by different senders from California in the United States.
The drugs were concealed in the two boxes that were declared as toys. The package of shabu arrived on March 23 and was consigned to a certain Savannah Valdez of General Trias, Cavite, while the package of kush weeds arrived on April 18 and was consigned to a certain Emmer Soncruz of Quezon City.
But these two recipients were both non-existent according to the BOC officials.
“This accomplishment is not only part of our efforts to hit the BOC’s revenue target, but to intensify our campaign against the smuggling of illegal goods into the country,” Lapeña said.
The seized drugs were turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).
