Tricycle driver posing as cop arrested

A tricycle driver was arrested on April 25 for allegedly posing as a police officer.

The fake cop, identified as Felix Verona, 35, was pulled over for not wearing a helmet while driving his motorcycle along NAIA Road, according to the Southern Police District (SPD).

He was wearing a navy blue polo shirt and pants, with the shirt bearing the Philippine National Police (PNP) logo. Verona introduced himself as a Police Officer 1, presenting a PNP identification card that was later found to be counterfeit.

A five-inch knife was seized from Verona, who said he carried the weapon in case he gets in trouble. He also admitted that he wanted to be a policeman and bought his uniform at Camp Crame, the PNP headquarters.

Verona will face usurpation of authority, illegal use of uniform and insignia and illegal possession of deadly weapon in relation to the Omnibus Election Code.

He was still wearing the same uniform when he was presented to the inquest prosecutor.
