Five members of the New People’s Army’s (NPA) “Militia Ng Bayan” have voluntarily surrendered to security troops in Ambaguio municipality, Nueva Viscaya province on May 7, 2018.
In a statement released by Captain Jefferson Somera, 5th Infantry Division, Philippine Army spokesperson, said the five NPA members turned themselves in to the 54th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army and to the Ambaguio Police in Barangay Poblacion.
Somera said their surrender was made possible through the intervention of Barangay Ammoweg officials.
Before their surrender, the five served as contacts, couriers and spies of the NPA operating in Ambaguio municipality.
As of January this year, the 5th Infantry Division recorded the surrender of seven NPA rebels and 63 “Militia Ng Bayan” members in their area of responsibility.
