In support of the Department of Education’s (DepEd) initiatives to rehabilitate and reinstate normalcy in Marawi City, LG Electronics, global manufacturer of consumer electronic products, donated computer monitors and health kits for 46 affected schools in the said city.
DepEd-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Assistant Secretary Alfhadar Pajiji, Marawi City Schools Division Superintendent Pharida Sansarona and Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Anna Zenaida Unte-Alonto received the 200 computer monitors and health kits (comprised of roughly 30,000 personal care products such as soap, toothbrushes and toothpastes, provided by LG Household & Health Care in Seoul) on April 19 at the LG Philippines Office in Pasig City.
Pajiji conveyed his gratitude to LG and underscored that this effort will not just help rehabilitate Marawi, but also help the Department in reinforcing its various programs and projects: “These monitors will surely be of big help in reinforcing DepEd’s national computerization program for both the learners and the teachers in Marawi… Hygiene kits are also important in supporting our advocacies for wellness and healthcare.”
DepEd-ARMM will facilitate the distribution of these desktop monitors and healthcare kits to the 46 schools.
Inkwun Heo, Managing Director of LG Electronics Philippines, mentioned that the new computer monitors will help the Marawi youth learn and sharpen the skills necessary to get ahead in life: “Every day we see how technology is reshaping the world around us. At LG, we believe that computer access and information technology are increasingly important for students to be more productive and valuable to society.”
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) executives from LG headquarters in Seoul, led by Park Heon-Young, President of LG Household & Health Care Government Relations Division, and local government unit (LGU) officials were also present at the turn-over ceremony.
“It is our pleasure to collaborate with LG Electronics Philippines and to donate these products to the city of Marawi. LG Household & Health Care will never stop supporting the Filipino people,” Heon-Young said.
In addition, employees of LG Electronics Philippines made individual contributions to raise funds for the public school teachers of Marawi who serve as active partners of the Department in delivering quality, accessible, relevant, and liberating basic education despite their circumstances.
