In light of its pursuit of peace and prosperity, the provincial government of Zamboanga del Norte led by Gov. Roberto Uy held a Peace Forum with Lt. Gen. Rolando Joselito D. Bautista, Commanding General of the Philippine Army as guest speaker on July 2, 2018 at The Atrium, Top Plaza Hotel, Dipolog City.
With the theme, “Peace is Everyone’s Responsibility,” more than 200 participants representing the religious sector, youth sector, barangay and local government units, and provincial government employees attended the forum.
In his message, Lt. Gen. Bautista said: “I would like to invite everybody to be vigilant and proactive in dealing with terrorist-related threats. In order to prevent extremism and terrorism from spreading and taking root in our country, we must be proactive in our information campaigns aimed at countering radical narratives and educating our vulnerable citizens to the dangers of embracing radicalism and extremism.”
“We should eradicate extremist ideals by coming up with a strategy to counter violent extremism that might very well begin in our homes. Educate your children well on weighing the consequences of going at great lengths as regards to the spread of these twisted beliefs,” Lt. Gen. Bautista said.
In his part, Gov. Uy said: “I enjoin everyone in the province of Zamboanga del Norte and the whole country to take part in our shared responsibility for peace. Though it is difficult to attain, but certainly it is possible with our unified and brave efforts.”
A peace covenant was signed by the attendees who pledged participation in the efforts of the provincial government and the Philippine Army to maintain peace and security in Zamboanga del Norte.
