A suspected Maute-ISIS terrorist was killed in a combat operation conducted by troops under Joint Task Force ZAMPELAN on July 26 at 9:00 AM in Masiu, Lanao del Sur after concerned residents informed the military units of the presence of the terrorists.
Major Ronald Suscano, Chief Division Public Affairs Office of 1st Infantry Tabak Division, Philippine Army said: “The government forces responded to the information of the concerned civilians in the area, where the operating troops of 49th Infantry Battalion conducted strike operation on the lair of Panarigan Tama Baoraki alias Golden Boy and Hadji Rasul Amimbering.”
Lieutenant Colonel Allan Villanueva, Commanding Officer of the 49th Infantry Battalion said in a text message Thursday afternoon, the brief encounter took place at the village of Sawer, Masiu.
Both were alleged leaders of the lawless group and supporters of the Maute-ISIS terrorists operating in Lanao del Sur.
“As the operating troops approached the lair , the armed men fired thus a firefight ensued for ten minutes exchange of gunfires,” Suscano said.
“The lone fatality from the armed group was identified as Zainal Candidato. The troops however recovered fr weapons and other materials such as three M16 rifles, two RPG Launchers, two grenades, ISIS Banners, six sachet of shabu, other drug paraphernalias, and one cellular phone. No casualties reported on the government side,” Suscano said.
Major General Roseller G. Murillo , Commanding General of Joint Task Force ZAMPELAN and 1ID said, “preventing and countering violent extremism is a shared responsibility of all members of our society but primarily of the people in the communities which these terrorists seek to destroy our way of life.”
Murillo commended the relentless efforts and vigilance of the civilians of Lanao del Sur, for reporting to the authorities the presence of the Maute-ISIS terrorists leading to a swift and decisive action and successful operations of the government forces of the JTF ZAMPELAN.
The military reported earlier, the Maute-ISIS terrorists group continues to recruit young people in Lanao del Sur and join their armed group for a fee at P30,000 once they will join and a monthly allowance of P20,000.
The military and the local government units of Lanao del Sur have been conducting a series of activities for the youth sector to counter the violent extremism which lure young people as recruits.
