The crushing out of the ISIS-Maute Terrorist Group in the Battle of Marawi ended the imminent threats posed by ISIS who wants to use southern Philippines as a gateway in establishing its foothold in Southeast Asia.
The heroism and sacrifices of Filipino soldiers and policemen backed by the overwhelming support of the general public especially the affected communities prevented the terror group and its affiliates to grow and spread its influence in Southeast Asia.
We pay tribute to the heroism of our fallen troops, who paid the ultimate price in defense of our country against the ISIS-Maute Terrorist Group in the seige of Marawi City. Their selflessness, courage, valor, devotion to duty, integrity, and loyalty are virtues that should not go unnoticed.
The overwhelming support from the different sectors of society, national and international organizations, government and non-government agencies, and individuals contributed to the swift and successful military operations. As Lt. Gen. Rolly Bautista, former Joint task Force Marawi Commander and currently the Commanding General of the Philippine Army, say: “Peace and security is a shared responsibility.”
The strong leadership of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte inspires our soldiers to serve the Filipino people and secure our motherland.
To offer one’s life in the service of country is the supreme sacrifice that any person in uniform can ever make – this should always be remembered not only during National Heroes Day.
