Close to 200 mass supporters of Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)-New People’s Army (NPA) in Southern Mindanao go back to the government fold and reaffirmed their allegiance to the Philippine Constitution.
The reaffirmation and allegiance to the government of the 184 former CPP-NPA mass supporters was facilitated by the Philippine Army’s 71st Infantry (Kaibigan) Battalion (71st IB) in Barangay Carcor, New Corella, Davao del Norte on September 1, 2018.
The mass supporters was part of CPP-NPA Southern Mindanao Regional Committee from five Barangays (Carcor, New Bohol, Poblacion, San Jose and New Cortez) in New Corella, Davao del Norte.
The Mayor of New Corella, Rhodora S. Alcoran, Lt. Col. Esteveyn E. Ducusin, commanding officer of 71st IB, and Davao del Norte police and barangay officials of New Corella provided support during the a simple program welcoming the former CPP-NPA supporters back to the folds of the law..
In a statement, Maj. Gen. Noel S. Clement, Commander of 10th “Agila” Division, Philippine Army said: “They have expressed reaffirmation of their allegiance to Philippine Government and its Constitution. With no people supporting their cause, the remaining NPA terrorists are expected to go down, back to the folds of the law and join mainstream society.”
“To the NPAs ou there, get down now and join us in building our nation to be sustainably developed where true peace reigns and people are living in a conflict-resilient communities,” Mj. Gen. Clement said.
