The Philippine Army’s 25th Infantry (Fireball) Battalion (25IB) reported on Sunday, January 27, 2019, seven sympathizers renounced their support to Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) and vowed to government that led to the recovery of IED components in Mt. Diwata, Monkayo, Compostela Valley, Province.
Lt. Col. Oscar B. Balignasay, 25IB Commanding Officer said one of those who surrendered, a member of Militiang Bayan, holds the highest position as commanding officer of the Barrio Revolutionary Committee (BRC).
Another one was identified as collector, Militiang Bayan and the current chairman of Nagkahiusang Katawhan sa Diwal-wal (NAGKADIWA), an organized Legal Mass Organization of peasants and workers that gives full support such as recruitment, logistics, and provides safe havens for the armed groups who are creating atrocities in the area also surrendered, LTC Balignasay said.
The other five identified sympathizers performed as Militiang Bayan, Courier and Improvise Explosive Device (IED) layer of the Weakened Guerilla Front (WGF20) of the Sub-Regional Command (SRC) 1, under Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC).
The former CTG sympathizers voluntary surrendered one M16 Rifle, one Garand Rifle, one Calibre 22 Magnum Rifle, one IED weighing 16Kgs, six sacks of rice, canned goods, medical supplies and paraphernalia, twelve pieces of Bandoliers, jungle hammocks personal belongings, and subversive documents that are of high intelligence value.
A follow up Intel operations was conducted by the Intel Team of 25IB led by Sgt. Udal under the supervision of 1Lt. Damasco at So Nang, Brgy Mt. Diwata, Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province. 190 pieces of blasting caps, eight pieces of blasting caps with attached wire, and more or less 40Kgs of Ammonium Nitrate were recovered.
The recovered items were brought to Headquarters 25IB at Camp Kalaw, Brgy. Poblacion, Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province for proper disposition.
The continues influx of surrenders entails that the people in the long run realizes the true intention of the Communist-Terrorist Group that is merely to inflict terroristic activities and persuade the people to fight against the government,” LTC Balignasay said.
LTC Balignasay also lauded the effort of the Fireball troopers with the support of Provincial Local Government Unit of Compostela Valley, and the Municipal Local Government Unit of Monkayo, Compostela Valley Province for standing up against all the CTG activities.
“Indeed, we could accomplish more if we converge efforts in achieving our goals,” LTC Balignasay said.
The 25IB is currently facilitating the enrollment to E-CLIP of the surrenderees with the steadfast support and immediate accommodation of the Local and National Agencies concerned.
