A municipality in Bulacan recently approved a resolution declaring Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) members as “persona non grata.”
The municipal peace and order council of Doña Remedios Trinidad (DRT MPOC), Bulacan approved the resolution on Match 12, 2019, declaring CPP-NPA terrorists “unwelcome persons” in DRT, Bulacan.
In line with Memorandum Circular No. 2018-211 of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG): “Prohibition of Support to Left Wing Rebel Group,” and Executive Order No. 70: “Institutionalizing the whole-of-nation approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace, creating a national task force to end local communist armed conflict, and directing the adoption of a national peace framework,” the DRT MPOC filed the resolution upon the proposal from the Philippine Army’s Bulacan-based 48th Infantry Battalion (48th IB) under the Seventh Infantry (Kaugnay) Division (7ID).
Lt. Col. Felix Emeterio M. Valdez, acting commanding officer of the 48th IB, proposed the idea during the Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) of DRT last March 12, 2019.
“This is where we come a step closer to the lasting peace we aim for. The declaration speaks in behalf of the people of DRT, that they are ready to embrace the lasting peace for sustainable development in the years to come,” Lt. Col. Valdez said.
“The whole-of-nation approach marks the start of a new campaign to end the insurgency. Those who religiously practice this approach give the people a chance to have better and more peaceful lives,” Maj. Gen. Lenard T Agustin, 7ID Commander said.
